Cannon began dating Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks in February 2007. Six weeks later, on May 7, 2007, Cannon proposed to Ebanks via the Times Square jumbotron. On October 4 of the same year, People announced that the couple called off their engagement.

In late April 2008, Cannon got engaged to Mariah Carey.In May 2008, the couple obtained a marriage license in the Bahamian island of Eleuthera. Cannon's family later confirmed that the couple were married at Carey's private estate in the Bahamas.
