Jade Goody dies early Sunday morning while she was sleeping. Jade Goody was 27 years old and rose to fame on the British version of the reality show Big Brother back in 2002. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August and in February, she was told that the cancer had spread and only had a few months to live.
It has been a touching last few months as we watched her get married and her baptism with her and her two boys Bobby, 5, and Freddy, 4. Shortly after the baptism, she was sent home to spend her last days with family and friends. She then lost sight in one eye and was devastated that she would not be able to see her boys before she goes. In pictures, she always was smiling even during a difficult situation to cope with. I cannot imagine how everyone was feeling inside.
Her publicist Max Clifford said, "She had been pretty much asleep for the last 24 hours," then dies before 4 o’clock in the morning. Goody’s mother and husband were at her bedside when she passed. Her mother told Clifford, "My beautiful daughter has gone to sleep, has gone." Her mother was devastated, as any mother would be even though you knew it was coming.
I think this situation was an eye opener for many. Jade Goody was not a known person and we knew more about her because of the cancer rather than the television show. Clifford said, "Her legacy will be that a lot of women owe their lives to Jade Goody because of her public announcement and battle against cervical cancer." Goody’s circumstance has led to better knowledge of cancer and having the screening essential to catch it.
